STATION 1: COMPOUND WORDS SORT

This station contains:

HOW TO USE:

  • Students should sort the word cards into two piles: compound words/non-compound words
  • A 9-word (18 total) recording sheet is included for students to record the words
  • The station can be completed at least 6 times without repeating any compound words 

 

STATION 2: SPIN A COMPOUND WORD

This station contains:

  • 5 sets of spinners with 8 compound words each
  • Recording sheet

 

HOW TO USE:

  • Students should spin SPINNER 1 first and record the word. Then spin SPINNER 2 next and record the word
  • Once both words are recorded, they should decide whether the word makes sense as a compound word or not. They should write REAL or NONSENSE in the final column
  • The station can be completed at least 5 times without repeating any compound words. The sets make at least 40 compound words in total

 

STATION 3: COMPOUND WORDS MATCH UP

This station contains:

  • 54 compound words (108 cards total)
  • Recording Sheet

 

HOW TO USE:

  • Cards should be sorted two spread out piles: yellow and green
  • Students should choose any yellow card first and then find the matching green card to make a compound word
  • A 9-word recording sheet is included for students to record the words
  • The station can be completed at least 6 times without repeating any compound words
